Leaving Africa is DocPoint’s Audience Favourite!

Hyvästi Afrikka_nostoIiris Härmä’s Leaving Africa – a Story about Friendship and Empowerment has won DocPoint’s Audience Favourite vote. The documentary tells about the friendship between the Finnish Riitta and the Ugandan, Catherine, and the conflicts they face while giving sexual education in Ugandan villages. This is the second year that the DocPoint audience got to choose and vote for their favourite film from the New Finnish Documentary Films section. The winner will be rewarded with money.

Alongside with the winning film, the New Finnish Documentary Films section included the following films: HOME. Somewhere. (dir. Lotta Petronella), The Land of Smiles (dir. Heikki Häkkinen), Kihniö (dir. Saija Mäki-Nevala), Who the Devil Can See in the Dark (dir. Mari Soppela), Golden Age (dir. Maija Blåfield), Becoming Me (dir. Mina Laamo), Destination Home (dir. Veera Lehto-Michaud and Maria Seppälä), The Fast of the Forest (dir. Antti Jääskeläinen), Men of Talvivaara Mine (dir. Markku Heikkinen) ja My Neighbour Tuula (dir. Henriikka Hemmi).

In 2014, the Audience Favourite winner was Love & Engineering by Tonislav Hristov. The winning film was announced and screened at the Award Ceremony on Sunday Feb 1st.
